Along with the Boxster roadster, the Porsche Cayman forms one half of the 718 twins in the Porsche line-up, two of the most exciting and involving driver’s cars you can lease from Synergy.
The original Cayman arrived with us back in 2006, a full 10-years after the launch of the Boxster roadster, and since then it has been a real favourite with Synergy’s enthusiasts. Its name - ‘Cayman’ - is just a modified spelling of ‘Caiman’, the smaller reptile in the alligator family.
In 2016, Porsche downsized from 6-cylinder engines to turbocharged 4-cylinder units. Depending on the model you choose, the engines will be either 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre in size. Both Porsche Cayman car leasing and the Boxster record identical statistics, with 296bhp and a 0-62mph time of 5.1-seconds in the base Cayman and the more powerful Cayman S and its 2.5-litre unit producing 345bhp giving an improved acceleration time of 4.6-seconds to 62mph.
As with the Boxster, an optional ‘Sport Chrono Package’ improves the acceleration times of both models by a further 4 tenths of a second. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, but if you want Porsche’s excellent 7-speed double-clutch ‘PDK’ automatic transmission it is still available as a cost option. In both cars, the engines are mounted behind the seats in the centre of the car, which is the optimum position for weight distribution. This is a key characteristic of the car, helping to give it really nimble handling, a fabulous sense of poise and a really engaging and fun driving experience. It’s what the 718 series is known for.

As a standard car, the 718 Cayman has a relatively simple specification, but many enthusiasts prefer this as it gives the purest possible driving experience.
