2012 saw the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz Citan, the new compact van in the Mercedes family range, sitting underneath the Vito and the Sprinter. It’s the result of a partnership between Mercedes and Renault and is designed to be suitable for passenger and business use – a Citan Tourer is available with 7-seats for passengers. Mercedes-Benz Citan leasing has an interesting history. Mercedes says ‘Citan’ as a name is a combination of the words ‘City’ and ‘Titan’, which tells you all you need to know about where the German firm sees its little van fitting in. It’s available in 3 lengths – Compact, Long, and Extra Long – as well as 4 different body styles – Panel van, Crew van, the 7-seat Tourer and the Sport. Load capacity potential ranges from 2.4 to 3.8m³ across the 3 wheelbases, while payload capacity goes from 490 to 810kg. Width, height, and load space height is the same across the range.
Underneath the bonnet there will be a diesel or petrol engine depending on your preference. The diesel is a 1.5-litre turbo with two power outputs, 89 or 109bhp. Both units are capable of returning mid-60’s in terms of miles per gallon and just 112 and 115g/km of CO2 is given out respectively. The petrol-powered unit is a 1.2-litre that produces 113bhp and is capable of around 46mpg, this is also the only engine in which you can get an automatic gearbox. For the rest of the range, a 5 or 6-speed manual is the only choice. All engines come with ‘BlueEfficiency’ technology as standard, Mercedes’ fuel saving technology that utilises start/stop technology, enhanced rolling resistance tyres and intelligent alternator and battery management. To drive, the Citan feels much like a car and benefits from a quiet engine and cruise control.
The standard Mercedes Citan van lease deals come with a fair selection of equipment and safety features including ESP, braking assistance, ABS and Bluetooth. There is a selection of optional extras that can be equipped to your Citan too, such as climate control and a navigation system with DAB digital radio. Intelligent light and rain sensors and parking sensors can also be specified.
