Versatility is the Peugeot Boxer’s bread and butter. The French van is available in 18 different configurations with varying heights, lengths and payload capacities with a load volume that varies between 8 to 17m³. Peugeot also ensures a wider range of business users are cared for with other bodies - chassis cabs, drop-side trucks, tippers and crew cabs.
It’s a big plus point in the Boxer’s favour that it can be chosen in such particular shapes and sizes and it’s supported by excellent new 2.0-litre turbo diesels brought in to meet EURO 6. The ‘BlueHDi’ engine comes in 2 ‘strengths’, a milder 110bhp and a stronger 130bhp and an even stronger 160bhp version. All units return impressive economy of 47mpg at its peak – which can vary depending on model specifications - while the exhausts kick out 158g/km of CO2, but the 160bhp engine does, understandably, give far superior performance to the 110bhp version. There is no option of an automatic gearbox in the Boxer so all vans are equipped with a 6-speed manual regardless of specification.
Up in the front of the cabin there’s a good number of storage spaces for various items and seating for two passengers is standard. All Peugeot Boxer van leasing models get DAB digital radio and Bluetooth as standard as well as USB inputs for entertainment connections. Cruise control, navigation – via a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment screen – and air conditioning are present in ‘Professional’ models. Other useful features available to Boxer customers include a rear-view camera which is mounted high on the back of the van for great rear visibility and Hill Descent Control which controls the van down gradients with less than ideal surfaces. Lane Departure Warning and a system for adapting the ESP that automatically senses load weights headline the safety features.
