Posted one year agoThe Explorer name has been part of Ford’s global SUV line-up since 1990, with over eight million sold worldwide. Originally built for the US market, it became known for its size, versatility and off-road ability. In 2024, the Explorer entered a new chapter as a fully electric SUV, built specifically for Europe and developed in partnership with Volkswagen using the MEB platform.
This all-electric Explorer introduced a new design scheme for Ford EVs, along with fast charging, a flexible interior and a focus on comfort. It’s designed for drivers who want a practical electric SUV with advanced tech and strong real-world range. The Explorer sits below the larger Mustang Mach-E in Ford’s electric range.

- Collection: A special-edition trim that builds on Select through adding 20-inch black alloy wheels, a distinct exterior colour with a contrasting black roof, sports seats with orange interior accents, and a standard-fit Travel Pack with a front trunk organiser.
- Premium: Available with a choice of three powertrains, Standard Range RWD, Extended Range RWD, or Extended Range AWD, with 20-inch alloys, ambient lighting, matrix LED headlights and upgraded interior materials as standard.
The Explorer offers a choice of powertrains to suit different driving needs, from efficient rear-wheel drive to high-powered all-wheel drive. The Style trim is powered by a 58 kWh battery and a 188bhp rear-mounted motor. It offers up to 287 miles of range (WLTP) and accelerates from 0–62 mph in 8.3 seconds.
Select models use a larger 79 kWh battery paired with a 282bhp motor. These versions deliver up to 374 miles of range and reduce the 0–62 mph time to 6.4 seconds.
Premium is available with a choice of three powertrains. With the same 58 kWh battery as Style, it offers up to 257.9 miles of range. The 79 kWh Extended Range RWD version increases this to 354.2 miles, while the 79 kWh Extended Range AWD version adds a second motor for a combined 340bhp and all-wheel drive, offering up to 321.2 miles of range and completing 0–62 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
The Ford Explorer’s exterior was updated for the 2025 model year, featuring a wider grille, sleeker LED headlights and a redesigned rear light bar. These changes give it a cleaner, more modern appearance.
Style and Select models come with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, roof rails and black exterior detailing. Collection adds 20-inch black alloy wheels and a distinct model-specific exterior colour with a contrasting black roof. Premium trims upgrade to 20-inch alloy wheels, matrix LED headlights with adaptive beam functionality, and a hands-free powered tailgate for added convenience.
Higher trims also include power-folding mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, and a contrast roof option. The design updates help position the Explorer as a key part of Ford’s next-generation electric range.
The Explorer’s interior focuses on comfort, space and modern tech, with the 2025 update bringing plenty of improvements. All versions come with a large 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.
The cabin offers seating for five with generous head and legroom. Style models include cloth upholstery, a heated windscreen and dual-zone climate control. Select adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and wireless phone charging, while Collection introduces sports seats with orange interior accents, and Premium features ambient lighting, upgraded seat materials and a 10-speaker sound system.
A standout feature in all trims is the 17-litre ‘MegaConsole’ between the front seats, offering extra storage for bags, bottles or small tech. With flexible rear seats and an adjustable boot floor, the Explorer’s interior adapts easily to day-to-day needs.
The Ford Explorer includes a strong set of safety and driver assistance systems across all trim levels. Standard features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping aid, traffic sign recognition and cruise control with speed limiter.
Select and Premium models add front parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Premium also includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
All versions are fitted with multiple airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
