Posted 9 years agoThe little Picanto is ‘A-segment’ excellence from South Korean automaker Kia.
In the ‘A-segment’ – where the smallest cars on the market are classified – there’s often a lot of interesting and colourful designs on display as manufacturers try to standout and show that just because these cars are small and inexpensive, it doesn’t mean they can’t be fun.
The Picanto car lease deals have been around since 2004 but this latest model is the third generation and was launched in 2017, actually making it one of the newer city cars on the market. It’s powered by a choice of two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder and a larger 1.25-litre 4-cylinder engine. They produce 65 and 87bhp respectively, so neither are likely to set your heart racing with sheer performance, but the upside to this is the impressive fuel efficiency – over 55mpg should be achievable in both engines. As standard, all Picanto car leasing models in the UK come with a 5-speed manual gearbox but if you’ve chosen the 1.25-litre engine then you do have the option of selecting a 4-speed automatic if you want the cogs to be swapped for you instead.
Individuality is considered an important trait in the world of the city car, and the Picanto comes with a big selection of trim levels – 7 in total – that vary greatly in what they offer. Models ‘1’ and ‘2’ are equipped basically and are exceptionally priced but lacking a varied selection of equipment. ‘3’ is where the luxuries really start to begin with automatic climate control, cruise control, a reversing camera, smartphone integration and autonomous emergency braking. ‘3’ also happens to the be first trim level where you can get Kia’s 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and DAB radio. ‘GT-Line’ and ‘X-Line’ – as well as their max-spec’d ‘S’ versions – are the top of the range but go for different approaches in terms of style. The former is intended to give the look of a hot hatchback where the latter seeks to give an air of SUV ruggedness about itself. Both of those particular models also get additional equipment such as larger alloy wheels and LED running lights.
