Posted 4 months agoOne of a trio of van-based MPV’s from the PSA Group, the Peugeot Rifter is a high dose of practicality with a subtle desirability.
PSA Group currently has 3 of this car available to lease here in the UK – the Citroen Berlingo, Vauxhall Combo Life and this Peugeot Rifter. MPV’s like the Rifter and its mechanically identical brethren have taken a big hit to their popularity since the rise of SUVs that happened earlier this decade, but they’re now becoming a bit desirable again, as they project a sense of having an ‘active lifestyle’.
Like the other 2 cars its parent group currently produces, the Rifter is based upon something called ‘EMP2’ architecture, which is also what the basis for some other models in the PSA family. These van-based MPV’s have been hugely popular in markets all across Europe, even inspiring many other brands to produce similar machines. To make one, you just take a small panel van, add some windows for extra light, improve comfort levels and equipment and you’ve a practical people-moving MPV that’s perfect for everything from supermarket trips to weekends away.
The Peugeot Rifter comes in 5 or 7-seater versions, with the only difference between them being the length of wheelbase, it’s either ‘Standard’ or ‘Long’. For engines, there’s a choice between a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol with 108bhp or a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel with either 74, 98 or 128bhp. Manual gearboxes are supplied as standard but in the higher output of the 2 available diesel engines, an 8-speed automatic gearbox is available as a cost option. The engines on offer are all setup to provide comfort and efficiency and Synergy customers shouldn’t have too much difficulty getting 40mpg in all Rifter models.
At the top of the Rifter range is the ‘GT-Line’ which comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth, smartphone integration and DAB, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and rear parking sensors. If you’re looking for an affordable, highly practical and comfortable car then the Peugeot Rifter is easily worthy of your attention, particularly if you want to go against the grain and not get an SUV.
