SUZUKI SX4 S-CROSS
The SX4 S-Cross is a comfortable, practical and affordable family vehicle from Suzuki
Welcome to another vehicle biography about a crossover SUV. The market is flooded with this type of vehicle, almost every single manufacturer now produces something like the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross. However, Suzuki is a manufacturer that traditionally ignores the addition of garnish to its vehicles, offering no-nonsense, practical and affordable vehicles – and that’s precisely why you should consider this particular car.
Suzuki is a manufacturer with many years of producing 4x4’s behind it, but the S-Cross isn’t cut from the same cloth as its historic models and especially not from the likes of the Jimny – a tough little off-roader. The SX4 S-Cross is instead Suzuki’s answer to the segment overlord – the Nissan Qashqai.
There’s a choice of 2 engines for the S-Cross – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder or a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder. Both engines are turbocharged petrol units and produce 110 and 138bhp respectively. From the mid-spec ‘SZ-T’ model, you can actually choose to spend a bit more on Suzuki’s ‘ALLGRIP’ 4-wheel drive system, which is a serious and useful addition to the car, though Synergy customers in urban environments probably won’t see the best from it, as it is intended for use on more challenging surfaces and conditions than what you’ll find in a city. For the gearboxes, a 5-speed manual is supplied as standard and on all 4-wheel drive models, while a 6-speed automatic is can be specified on the 2-wheel drive cars in SZ-T and SZ-5 trimmed cars.
Being a Suzuki there’s a generous amount of kit offered, particularly at the attractive mid-point of the range – SZ-T. From there, your S-Cross gets; DAB digital radio, Bluetooth, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, a satellite navigation system, a rear-facing parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. At the top spec SZ-5 model, you’ll get heated leather seating, a panoramic sunroof and adaptive cruise control added to this.
Though it doesn’t get the publicity of the notable rivals in the segment, the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is a fine example of a family-focused crossover SUV with its plentiful space and comfort.
