TOYOTA HILUX
Few machines can match the famous Toyota Hilux for sheer strength and capability.
Certain cars have certain reputations in the motoring world. The BMW 3-series has a reputation for having sporty handling characteristics. The Range Rover has a reputation for being comfortable. The Ford Mustang has a reputation for shredding tyres. The Toyota Hilux pick-up has a reputation for being the toughest car on the market.
The original Hilux was launched in 1968 and has been with us ever since, and 2015 saw the launch of the current and 8th generation of this popular utility vehicle. Its reputation has been forged over its 50-years of running and also popularised in popular media. Synergy customers love the Hilux for its abilities as a working car, powering businesses with its 1-tonne payload capacity and 3.5-tonne towing capability.
It’s ability to carry or pull such weights comes from its power source – a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel. It’s 148bhp belies its strength, the real statistic that needs to be looked at is the 400Nm of torque that’s put to the ground via an all-wheel drive system. Depending on your preference, this is controlled by either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
When it comes to leaving the tarmac, the Hilux has exceptional off-road capabilities making it one of the best on the market for exploring mucky ground. Able to grip, climb and even wade through water up to 70cm deep. Key to its functionality away the dark stuff is the all-wheel drive system which has selectable drive modes to assist in low-grip terrain, making use of a locking differential and low ratio gears to get it through even the toughest of situations.
The Hilux is available with three different body styles – cab, extra cab and double cab – as well as a variety of accessories depending on the needs of the Synergy customer. Tonneau covers, storage boxes, moving load flooring and bars can be chosen for the rear load bay which can also be covered on some models. If the Hilux isn’t already tough enough, you can also ask us about the special order ‘AT35’ version of the Hilux, prepared especially by adventure experts ‘Artic Trucks’.
Possibly the most famous pick-up truck in the world, the Toyota Hilux is ready for anything. No wonder its top-level trim is named ‘Invincible’.
