Posted 9 months agoThe XC40 Recharge was first released in 2017, before being renamed in 2024 to bring it in-line with Volvo’s newer EV naming system. The EX40 is positioned as the Volvo’s mid-sized electric SUV, sitting between the larger EX90 and the smaller EX30.
The EX40 is available in three trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultra.
The EX40 is available with a variety of all-electric powertrains. The range begins with the Core Single Motor which produces 238bhp and can achieve up to 295 miles on a single charge (WLTP). If your lifestyle involves frequent long journeys, then the Extended Range Ultra Black Edition offers up to 333 miles of electric range.
For maximum performance, the Twin Motor Performance Ultra Black Edition boasts power of up to 442bhp.
Unlike other EVs, the EX40 doesn’t exaggerate its eco-friendly nature. Its design is very similar to the XC40 on which it is based.
As standard, the Core trim offers features like LED headlights, integrated black roof rails and heated door mirrors. Upgrade to the Plus and get a contrasting black stone roof top, tinted rear windows and striking 19” diamond cut alloys.
Go even further with the Plus Black Edition and benefit from a panoramic sunroof and high gloss black 20” alloys for added style.
The interior of the XC40 is thoughtfully designed. The Core trim features Volvo’s Origin decor that adds a modern feel to the cabin while paying tribute to the brand’s hometown Gothenburg.
Heated front seats, air quality system and humidity sensor all come as standard and ensure the cabin is comfortable. The Plus trim adds a heated steering wheel that’s great in colder months.
In terms of technology, standard features include a 9" centre console touch screen with Google Assistant, Maps and Apple CarPlay built in. Wireless phone charging ensures your smartphone won’t lose power while on the move.
The range of safety features is where the EX40 impresses. Road sign information display, emergency brake assist and pedestrian warning with automatic brakes all come as standard. Choose the Plus trim and get adaptive cruise control and pilot assist to help maintain safe distances and stay centred in your lane.
The Ultra trim adds a 360-degree camera and front, rear and side park assist for easy manoeuvrability in tight spaces.
