Volvo XC90 Business & Personal Car Leasing Offers
Volvo launched the original XC90 in 2002, its first-ever SUV and the brand's first seven-seat car since the 1940s. It arrived with two world firsts, Roll Stability Control as the first rollover-prevention system fitted to an SUV, and inflatable curtain airbags extended across all three rows of seats. The model went on to collect more than 100 international awards over its production life.
The current XC90 marks a shift for Volvo itself. Launched in 2015, it was the first Volvo built on the brand's Scalable Product Architecture, arriving as a deliberate step upmarket for the brand following Geely's acquisition of Volvo. Rather than replacing it again since, Volvo has kept the model current through a decade of updates, suiting drivers who want a proven, well-refined SUV.
Two engine choices are available, a mild hybrid petrol and a T8 Plug-in Hybrid. That combination, built around Volvo's safety-first approach, makes the XC90 a relevant option for both Volvo XC90 business lease and Volvo XC90 personal lease customers looking for a premium seven-seat SUV.

Engine & Performance
The XC90 is available with two petrol-based powertrains across all five trims: a B5 mild hybrid and a T8 Plug-in Hybrid, both built around a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an 8-speed automatic gearbox and standard all-wheel drive. The B5 uses a 48-volt mild hybrid system for extra efficiency at low speeds, while the T8 adds an electric motor and an 18.8kWh battery for genuine electric-only driving.
The B5 produces 250bhp and reaches 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds across the range, with combined fuel consumption up to 33.6mpg on Core, Plus, Plus Pro and Ultra Pro. The T8 Plug-in Hybrid produces 406bhp on every trim and covers 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds regardless of specification, with up to 44 miles of WLTP electric range. Combined fuel consumption ranges from 217.3mpg on the higher trims to 235.4mpg on Core, Plus and Plus Pro.
Exterior Features
Volvo gave the XC90 its second facelift of this generation in 2024, the first significant design update since 2019. The changes added a slimmer version of Volvo's Thor's Hammer matrix LED headlight design, paired with a reshaped trapezoidal lower grille, a revised front bumper and a more sculpted bonnet. At the rear, new wings support Volvo's signature vertical LED rear lights, finished in a darker material that replaces the outgoing car's chrome detailing.
Lower down, the front bumper picks up narrow vertical intakes that channel air around the body as an air curtain, reducing drag without altering the SUV's overall proportions. Wheel sizes climb through the range, from 20-inch alloys on Core to 21-inch on Plus Pro and Ultra, and 22-inch diamond-cut alloys on Ultra Pro.
Two exterior design themes are available, Dark and Bright, changing the finish of the window surrounds, door mirrors, front grille detailing and integrated roof rails between gloss black and bright chrome. Core is available in Bright only, Plus in Dark only, while Ultra and Ultra Pro can be specified in either.
A Black Edition styling pack, available on Plus Pro and Ultra Pro, adds 21-inch high-gloss black alloy wheels, a high-gloss black front grille and Volvo iron mark badge, and dark-tinted rear side windows on Plus-based cars. Exterior colours include Ice White, Onyx Black, Crystal White, Denim Blue, Vapour Grey, Aurora Silver, Bright Dusk, Forest Lake, and Mulberry Red.
Interior Features
Inside, Core and Plus come with quilted Nordico upholstery, a textile-based material Volvo uses as a more sustainable alternative to leather. From Plus Pro upwards, this switches to ventilated Nappa leather, with a choice of Brown Ash or Grey Ash wood trim. Ultra and Ultra Pro add a massage function to the front seats.
Every trim gets heated front seats, heated outer rear seats, a heated steering wheel and a power tailgate you can open hands-free. Wireless phone charging is also standard throughout. For infotainment, Google is built in from Core upwards, so drivers get Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play store through the central touchscreen, alongside a digital driver display. Plus adds a 360-degree camera and a Harman Kardon sound system, which is upgraded to Bowers & Wilkins from Ultra. Ultra also swaps the heated windscreen for a head-up display.
All five trims keep the XC90's genuine seven-seat layout. Boot space runs from 244 litres with all three rows up, to 2,005 litres with the second and third rows folded flat.
Safety Features
Volvo's safety reputation goes back further than any single model. The brand invented the modern three-point seatbelt in 1959, then gave the patent away for free so other manufacturers could use it too, a decision credited with saving over a million lives since. That same approach, treating safety as something to build a brand around rather than a checkbox, is why the XC90 carries a five-star Euro NCAP rating, first awarded when this generation was tested in 2015, with a 97 per cent score for adult occupant protection and full marks in the Safety Assist category.
Every XC90 comes with Volvo's City Safety system, which can automatically brake for pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles if the driver doesn't react in time. Full-length inflatable curtain airbags cover all three rows of seats, and whiplash protection is built into the front seats as standard.
For longer journeys, Pilot Assist combines adaptive cruise control with gentle steering support to help keep the car centred in its lane. It's designed to support an attentive driver rather than take over, so you'll still need to keep your hands on the wheel and stay ready to take control.

If you're considering a Volvo XC90 lease, a few other seven-seat SUVs are worth a look.
- Hyundai Santa Fe: Now in its fifth generation, the Santa Fe has been redesigned with a boxy distinctive look that's marked a genuine step up for the brand. Offers seven seats and a choice of hybrid or plug-in hybrid power, though it doesn't match the XC90 on outright premium feel and its styling won't suit everyone.
- Land Rover Defender 110: Since its 2020 reinvention, the Defender has been reborn as a genuinely desirable, premium SUV. Offers an optional seven seats and a 900mm wading depth for real off-road capability, though it comes at a higher price than the XC90 and prioritises capability over outright comfort.
- Kia EV9: Kia's first three-row electric SUV, the EV9 is unmistakably futuristic inside and out. Offers up to 349 miles of WLTP range and a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, though its unconventional design and fully electric powertrain won't suit every driver.
