Compact and practical enough for everyday use, the A290 blends hot hatch agility with premium detailing and advanced technology. It suits drivers who want the everyday usability of a compact hatchback without giving up performance, from keen drivers moving up from the standard Renault 5 to business users after a distinctive, low-emission car with visual presence. Its compact dimensions and manageable running costs also make it a practical choice for drivers who mainly cover shorter urban and suburban journeys.

Alpine A290 leasing is available across three trim levels:
- GT Plus: The entry point to the range, with a 180bhp (130kW) electric motor, 19-inch Iconic Diamond-Cut alloy wheels, Alpine Portal infotainment with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, and Arkamys audio.
- GT Performance Plus: Steps up to a 220bhp (160kW) motor and adds Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tyres, red Brembo four-piston brake calipers, and Alpine Telemetrics.
- GTS Plus: Combines the 220bhp motor with the range's most complete specification, including 19-inch Snowflake alloy wheels, Nappa leather upholstery with Alpine stitching, and Devialet premium audio.
The Alpine A290 is powered by a 52kWh battery paired with a single electric motor. Two power outputs are available depending on trim. GT Plus produces 180bhp (130kW) and 285Nm of torque, reaching 0–62mph in 7.4 seconds. GT Performance Plus and GTS Plus step up to 220bhp (160kW) and 300Nm, cutting the 0–62mph time to 6.4 seconds.
All versions are front-wheel drive and use Alpine's sport-tuned chassis and suspension for sharper handling. The WLTP electric range is up to 235 miles on GT Plus. This drops to 226 miles on GT Performance Plus and GTS Plus, due to their grippier, lower-rolling-resistance tyres. The A290 supports up to 100kW DC rapid charging, adding charge from 15 to 80% in around 30 minutes.
The Alpine A290 features a bold, motorsport-inspired design and a low stance that reflects its performance focus. Signature four-element LED headlights reflect Alpine's rally heritage, while gloss black detailing and 19-inch alloy wheels give it a dynamic road presence.
Each trim brings its own visual details. GT Performance Plus adds red Brembo brake calipers and Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tyres, and GTS Plus builds on this with 19-inch Snowflake alloy wheels and additional exterior badging.
Optional extras can include Atelier Alpine personalisation touches, including Signature Blue, Red or Tricolore styling packs, blue wheel centre caps, and a removable 13-pin tow bar. Availability can vary based on current manufacturer ordering options.
The Alpine A290's interior features premium materials and modern tech throughout the range. The layout centres around a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, running the Alpine Portal system with Google built-in.
GT Plus and GT Performance Plus share the same textile upholstery with Alpine blue stitching and come with heated front seats as standard. GTS Plus is the only trim to move to Nappa leather upholstery, alongside customisable ambient lighting. A flat-bottom steering wheel inspired by Alpine's Formula 1 programme adds a performance edge. Devialet® premium audio comes as standard on GTS Plus and is available as an optional extra on the other two trims.
The Alpine A290 has a four-star Euro NCAP safety rating (2025). Standard driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. Parking is made easier with rear sensors and a reversing camera, while high beam assist and rain-sensing wipers add everyday convenience.
Higher-spec models also benefit from additional active safety tech, helping to support confident driving in busy traffic or on longer journeys.
