History

DENZA was founded in 2010 as a 50/50 joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, combining BYD's electric vehicle and battery expertise with Mercedes-Benz's experience in luxury car design. Mercedes-Benz is no longer involved in the brand, and BYD has since taken full ownership, making DENZA an individual entity within the wider BYD group.

It sits above BYD itself in the wider group hierarchy. Its UK public debut came at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The launch forms part of a wider European rollout across more than 30 countries, and DENZA plans to open over 150 retail sites across Europe as the brand expands.

- DENZA Z9GT: A shooting brake grand tourer available with fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, delivering a range of up to around 497 miles and a top speed of up to around 149mph on the electric version.

The following DENZA models are expected to launch soon:

- DENZA D9: A luxury MPV built around comfort and passenger space, offered as a plug-in hybrid with around 130 miles of electric-only range and a combined range of around 590 miles.

- DENZA BAO 5: A rugged plug-in hybrid SUV with four-wheel drive, offering around 56 to 62 miles of electric-only range and around 687bhp from its combined petrol-electric powertrain.
