Jeep Compass Business & Personal Car Leasing Offers
A handsome, strong American compact SUV from a brand with a superb reputation.
Designed to be just as much at home in the city as it is out in the countryside, the Jeep Compass is a small SUV that comes with serious ability – as any product bearing a Jeep badge should. It sits above the subcompact Renegade and more family-suitable Cherokee in the Jeep line-up and looks to be the main rival for the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Volvo XC40 and Ford Kuga.
The Compass is one of the newer models in the Jeep range, having only been introduced in the late 2000’s and entering its second generation in late 2016. Back in its homeland, the Compass has become steadily more and more popular since its introduction, and while the Jeep brand isn’t as big here in the UK as it is over the pond, its popularity is expected to increase here too.
Powering the Compass will be diesel or petrol turbocharged engines, depending on your preference. The 1.4-litre petrol is available with 138 or 167bhp, with the latter available exclusively with Jeep’s world renowned ‘4x4’ all-wheel drive system. Diesel sources are a 1.6 or 2.0-litre unit, with the latter being available again only with the 4x4 system, though a 9-speed automatic can also be chosen instead of the standard 6-speed manual. The 1.6-litre unit is the most efficient, with a combined cycle rating of 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions at 117g/km, though it is front-wheel drive only.
There is currently a range of 3 Jeep Compass models named ‘Sport’, ‘Longitude’ and ‘Limited’ in order of spec. Sport models get keyless entry, cruise control, air conditioning, a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic lights and an array of safety technology. Longitude usefully increases the touchscreen to 8.4-inches as well as adding navigation, DAB digital radio, dual-zone climate control, while top-spec Limited adds smartphone integration, GPS navigation and luxuries such as leather seating - heated in the front - and a heated steering wheel.
Thanks to its off-road credentials and impressive diesel engines, the Jeep Compass manages to offer more than just style and badge power. This is a well-equipped and solid feeling SUV that is understandably popular, and it’s surely only a matter of time until it really begins to take off here in the UK.
