Posted 9 years agoThe Mercedes GLE joined the range in 2015, replacing the M-Class as part of Mercedes' updated naming strategy. Now in its second generation, the GLE was refreshed in 2023 with updated styling, improved plug-in hybrid options and the latest MBUX tech.
It sits between the GLC and GLS in the SUV line-up, offering a strong mix of comfort, space and advanced driver assistance. With optional seven-seat layouts and a wide choice of engines, it’s built for both families and business drivers.

The GLE 300d uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing around 269bhp. It delivers strong everyday performance, reaching 0–62 mph in approximately 6.9 seconds.
Stepping up to the GLE 450 adds a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid support. This version delivers around 387bhp and cuts the 0–62 mph time to 5.6 seconds, combining smooth power delivery with extra torque for confident overtakes and higher-speed comfort.
The GLE 400e plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, offering a combined output of 408bhp and an all-electric driving range of up to 71 miles (WLTP).
The Mercedes GLE features clean lines, a wide grille and LED headlights as standard. Higher trims like AMG Line Premium and Night Edition Premium Plus include Multibeam LED lights, sportier bumpers and larger alloy wheels for a more distinctive appearance.
The 2023 update introduced a redesigned front end, refreshed rear lights and new alloy wheel options. Roof rails and privacy glass come as standard on most versions, while gloss black or chrome trim details vary by model. The SUV body offers a practical shape with good visibility, while the Coupé version has a more sloped roofline and a sportier look.
Inside, the Mercedes GLE offers a high level of comfort and space with quality materials used throughout. All models feature dual 12.3-inch displays as standard - one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for the central infotainment system powered by MBUX.
Most trims come with heated front seats, ambient lighting, and electrically adjustable seats with memory function. Higher trims such as Premium Plus include panoramic sunroofs, upgraded leather upholstery, and multi-zone climate control.
The five-seat layout provides generous room for passengers and luggage, while selected models are available with a third row of seats to carry up to seven. The rear seats offer good flexibility with folding and sliding functions to adjust space as needed.
