Posted 5 years agoSitting at the top of the Skoda range is its flagship car – the Skoda Superb. This machine demonstrates the very best that the Czech company can do and over the last few years it has become a huge hit with Synergy customers and the wider motoring public thanks to its huge space, comfortable ride and fantastic pricing.
Though the Skoda Superb is considered a fairly modern name here in the UK (it first appeared with us back in 2001) the Superb nameplate is actually a historic one, dating back to the 1930’s - a time of luxury and elegance where early Skoda Superb’s were some of the finest cars money could buy. In 1934, the glamorous and very large Superb first entered onto Czech roads and assisted in making its producer one of the most famous marques in Europe, during a time when Czech car building was experiencing its Golden Age, with other companies like Praga and Tatra known right away across the world.
The current generation of the lease Skoda Superb estate has a little German DNA within its helixes though, as this car is one of many produced with the Volkswagen ‘MQB’ platform, something that is true for many cars right the way across the VW Group extended family. This versatile vehicle platform allows for great flexibility for engineers without the related development costs, so much so that despite sharing its platform with something as impractical as the Audi TT, the Superb estate is actually one of the most spacious machines on the market. There’s 660-litres of boot space available, expanding to an absolutely gigantic 1,950-litres when the rear seats are folded down. There aren’t many cars that are this spacious on the market, after the Superb estate the next level of space lies in commercial vehicles.
Petrol and diesel engines make an appearance in the Skoda Superb estate lease, a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with around 148bhp often proves to be popular, but if its power you’re after, a 2.0-litre turbo with around 270bhp and all-wheel drive is also offered. Meanwhile, the diesel engines come with either 148 or 187bhp.
Skoda is well known for its ‘Simply Clever’ solutions, that include things like umbrellas stored inside the front doors, but don’t let that distract you from a very generous standard equipment package – you’ll find DAB digital radio, Bluetooth, a touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning, rear parking sensors and much more all feature as standard, with more luxurious items such as heated seating and adaptive suspension coming equipped on models in high-spec cars within the range.
