Ford Grand C-Max
With the Grand C-Max, Ford’s popular compact MPV gains 2 extra seats while retaining the quality driving experience it is already known for.
As a compact MPV, the Ford C-Max isn’t all that big for a family vehicle, but it does come as a 7-seater and that’s the version we have here – the Grand C-Max. It’s slightly longer and taller at the rear than the standard C-Max, but aside from that, it’s essentially the same vehicle and has a small footprint that gives a real ease of mobility.
It’s not all about sensible space and storage though, the Grand C-Max inherits the reputation of the 5-seater model for being an enjoyable car to drive. It’s no sports car, but its communicative steering, strong-performing brakes and range of punchy engines means the C-Max is far from the barge-like driving experience you might expect.
On the subject of engines, Synergy customers have the option of petrol or diesel power sources with the Grand C-Max. The petrol engines offered are two different power outputs of the famous 3-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, as well as a larger 1.5-litre 4-cylinder that is available exclusively with Ford’s ‘Powershift automatic gearbox. The 124bhp 3-cylinder turbo is a popular choice, giving impressive fuel efficiency and pull, despite its footprint being roughly that of a piece of A4 paper. If you’re one of our customers who needs to cover more miles, then the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine is probably going to fit better with your lifestyle. It’s a 118bhp unit capable of just over 57mpg while only displacing 127g/km of CO2 back into the atmosphere. This unit is available with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, so you don’t have to choose a different option if you have a preference for either gearbox.
Despite being a 7-seater, the Grand C-Max can also be thought of as an extra-practical standard C-Max, as the 2 extra seats fold away to allow for an extra-large boot when not in use. With all seating folded flat (including the second row) the Grand C-Max has a huge 1,742-litre boot space. Loading is easier too, as the Grand C-Max throws out hinged rear doors in favour of 2 sliding doors instead. This on top of the many storage zones and space for passengers make for a highly practical family car valued by many Synergy customers.
