Geely is the Chinese manufacturer behind Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, and entered the UK market for the first time in late 2025 with the electric EX5. The brand is expanding quickly, aiming to grow its UK dealer network to 100 sites by the end of 2026.
The Starray EM-i, named after Geely's e-Motive Intelligence hybrid system, is Geely's second model in the UK and its first plug-in hybrid, engineered from the outset as a dedicated PHEV rather than adapted from the EX5's electric powertrain. It's a five-seat SUV positioned against established rivals such as the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
Every Starray includes driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, and blind spot monitoring. Combined with its electric-only range and long warranty cover, that makes the Starray a relevant choice for both Geely Starray business lease and Geely Starray personal lease customers looking for a modern family SUV with lower running costs.

Geely Starray leasing includes three trims: Pro, Max, and Ultra.
- Pro: Opens the range with a 15.4-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, heated front seats and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, running on the smaller 18.4kWh battery for up to 51 miles of WLTP electric range.
- Max: Adds a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats and a 16-speaker Flyme Sound system, staying on the same 18.4kWh battery as Pro.
- Ultra: Swaps in the larger 29.8kWh battery, extending WLTP electric-only range to 84 miles and unlocking faster 60kW DC charging, while carrying over the same equipment as Max.
A choice of metallic paint is available as a paid option across all three trims, including Frost Grey, Obsidian Black, Glacier Blue, Green and Silver. Arctic White is included as standard. Ultra trim also offers a Cloud White synthetic leather interior as an upgrade over the standard Ebony Black upholstery. Availability can vary based on current manufacturer ordering options.
The Geely Starray EM-i uses a single Super Hybrid powertrain across all three trims: a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine and an electric motor driving the front wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission. Two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs are available: an 18.4kWh unit on Pro and Max, and a larger 29.8kWh pack exclusive to Ultra.
The combined system produces 262bhp and 262Nm of torque on every trim, reaching 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds regardless of specification. Pro and Max, running the 18.4kWh battery, offer up to 51 miles of WLTP electric-only range and CO2 emissions from 54g/km, equivalent to around 118mpg combined. Ultra's larger 29.8kWh battery extends WLTP electric-only range to 84 miles and CO2 emissions as low as 32g/km, equivalent to around 200mpg combined. Ultra's 60kW DC charging capability also cuts the 30-80% top-up time to 16 minutes, compared to 20 minutes for the smaller battery's 30kW charging.
The Starray shares its body and silhouette with the electric EX5, and the two are easy to mistake for one another at a glance. But the clearest difference sits low on the front bumper, where a small intake feeds the petrol engine, something the EX5 doesn't need. At the rear, revised badging and slightly different tail light detailing set the two apart, though only up close.
Measuring 4,740mm in length, the Starray sits toward the larger end of the mid-size SUV class, similar in size to the MG HS. All three trims share the same 19-inch alloy wheels; there's no wheel upgrade further up the range. Max and Ultra add a panoramic glass roof and a powered tailgate, features not fitted on Pro.
Six exterior colours are available. Arctic White is included as standard; the other five, Frost Grey, Obsidian Black, Glacier Blue, Green and Silver, are metallic finishes available at extra cost. Availability can vary based on current manufacturer ordering options.
Every Starray combines a 15.4-inch central touchscreen with a 10.2-inch digital driver display, running Geely's Flyme Auto system and including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Max and Ultra add a 13.8-inch head-up display, wireless phone charging and a 256-colour ambient lighting system, none of which are fitted on Pro.
Synthetic leather upholstery in Ebony Black is standard across the range. Ultra offers a Cloud White finish as a cost option. Front seats are heated and power-adjustable on every trim; Max and Ultra add seat ventilation and a heated steering wheel. The dashboard uses soft-touch materials on its upper surfaces, and the instrument panel is finished in leatherette rather than hard plastic.
The Starray's flat rear floor, carried over from the EX5's EV platform, frees up foot space for a middle rear passenger. Rear legroom is generous, and storage includes a two-tier centre console, a covered armrest cubby and door bins front and rear. Max and Ultra add a centre rear armrest with cupholders. The boot holds 528 litres with the rear seats up, rising to 2,065 litres with them folded, and Max and Ultra swap the manual tailgate for a powered one.
The Starray achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2025, scoring 90% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant protection, 86% for vulnerable road user protection and 77% for safety assist. Geely doesn't vary safety equipment by trim, so the same core systems are fitted on Pro, Max and Ultra alike.
Airbag protection includes front airbags for the driver and passenger, side head, chest and pelvis airbags up front, side head airbags extending to the rear, and a centre airbag between the two front seats. Three ISOFIX mounting points are fitted as standard, one in the front passenger seat and two in the rear, each with top tether anchors.
Every Starray includes autonomous emergency braking that responds to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists as well as other vehicles, lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, driver fatigue and distraction monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
