TOYOTA LAND CRUISER
Uncompromising, rugged and powerful, the Toyota Land Cruiser is famous for tackling everything that can be thrown at it.
In Britain, our Land Rover Defender is the car we associate with military-derived tough off-road machinery. The United States of America has the same thing, thinking of the Jeep Wrangler as the modern day descendent of the famous Willys Jeep. In Japan, the car they’d think of in this sense is the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota’s oldest nameplate and one of the strongest machines you can lease here at Synergy.
Since being introduced way back in 1951, the Toyota Land Cruiser has evolved and strengthened, becoming a vehicle of choice for adventurers, workers and explorers. More than 6.5-million of them have been sold worldwide since the early 50’s, and the Japanese firm described the latest Land Cruiser – last updated in 2018 – as “The peak of capability and comfort.”.
Capability is what the Land Cruiser is known for, of course. It is fitted with an array of off-road technology to help you get through mud, snow, sand and much more. Sophisticated all-wheel drive technology is powered by a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine with a manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Its 171bhp output isn’t the figure most people will choose to focus on, instead they’ll look at the 450Nm of torque produced at just 1,600rpm as the grading system for this engine, a powerful figure to help pull this 2.1-tonne 7-seat SUV through just about anything Mother Nature puts into its path.
Thanks to the Land Cruiser’s electronically modulated Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System – or ‘KDSS’ in Toyota speak – and useful toys like the Multi-Terrain Monitor, off-roading has never been easier. The latter allows you to see under and around the car when traversing difficult areas, so you don’t need to leave the Land Cruiser to survey the terrain.
The interior is a comfortable place to spend time too, with plenty of room for kit and passengers as well as comfortable leather seating that can be heated or ventilated, Toyota’s 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system and a range of easy to operate, chunky controls.
With its impressive ability to handle all kinds of environments, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the perfect vehicle for those who need to spend a lot of time venturing to places where normal cars don’t dare.
