Well, this is a different sort of Toyota Yaris than we’re used to. It’s the Toyota Yaris Cross, a drastically different sort of car to the Yaris most of us are familiar with. The new lease Yaris Cross is described by its maker as “an authentic urban adventurer”, but what it is, is an SUV with a small footprint with the option of all-wheel drive and the inclusion of Toyota’s self-charging hybrid system.
Toyota has a lot of history when it comes to the Yaris, it’s a car that has been around since the late 20th century and has always proven itself to be a solid choice in the supermini segment. Toyota, however, doesn’t have much history when it comes to taking on best-selling vehicles like the Nissan Juke. That’s where the Yaris Cross comes in, a chunkier Yaris than we’re used to, sure, but bang on trend with the current industry and sure to attract admiring glances from our business and personal lease customers.
Styled in both Japan and Europe by a collaborative team of designers, this new Japanese SUV is perhaps a bit more European than you’d expect. It’s been honed for use on European roads, with heavy influence from the designers and engineers based on the continent and it’s even manufactured over the channel in France alongside the Yaris hatchback.
