VOLKSWAGEN ARTEON CAR LEASING
Volkswagen takes on the luxury brands with its gorgeous new four-door fastback
Volkswagen, the Mr. Sensible of the motoring manufacturing world, occasionally catches us out by producing something a little bit different to what we expect. The Arteon – one of the firm’s newest models – is one of those cars.
The Volkswagen Arteon has only been out for around a year now but has already shown itself to be quite a popular addition to the Volkswagen range, despite being something a little different to what the brand usually produces. This is a beautifully designed and quite striking four-door fastback coupe from the same mould as the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe or the Audi A5 Sportback – cars that not only stand out but are highly regarded for luxury and quality.
Much of the Arteon is based upon the Passat saloon, which is no bad thing because the Passat is a very good saloon. Anyone who is familiar with the Passat will recognise the interior design, but the Arteon gets a higher level of standard equipment than its stablemate and even has a digital cockpit display as standard that is very similar to Audi’s famous Virtual Cockpit. There are two trim levels available to Synergy customers to order – ‘Elegance’ and ‘R-Line’. Both models get equipment like adaptive cruise control, a large touchscreen infotainment system, tri-zone climate control, and a host of other extras you’d expect from a modern Volkswagen. Optional extras are reserved for more luxury items such as electric and massage seats and heads-up display.
To power the Arteon there’s a choice of petrol and diesel engines that already exist within the Volkswagen range. No 6-cylinder units are offered, like Volvo, Volkswagen has decided to stick with small-capacity turbocharged engines here – the 1.5-litre ‘EVO’ petrol engine is a popular choice for green pump users, while the 2.0-litre ‘TDI’ diesel is the choice for those who cover a few more miles. Both engines have already been heralded as really good units and are offered here in the Arteon with the choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic ‘DSG’ gearbox.
Out on the road, the Arteon is clearly setup to be more comfortable than it is sporty. It’s perhaps best sampled as a ‘4MOTION’ all-wheel drive model, with the extra grip and poise increasing enjoyment in the corners as well as providing a bit more security in poor weather or road conditions. If it’s a comfortable, strikingly designed car with plenty of space and four doors you’re looking for, the Volkswagen Arteon definitely deserves a place on your shortlist.
