Peugeot 108
A stylish little city car that looks right at home in urban environments.
Built in partnership with Citroen and Toyota, the 108 is Peugeot’s take on a product produced by the combined powers of the three big motoring marques. This partnership is known as ‘TPCA’ – meaning ‘Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile’ – and is headquartered in the Czech Republic where it produces the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1 alongside the Peugeot 108. While all 3 of these machines are mechanically the same underneath, each of the 3 manufacturers puts its own design and spin on the car and with that, each of the machines has its own flavour.
There’s no doubting what the little 108 is when you first see it. With its distinctive front grill, ‘3 claw’ rear lights and angled headlights, the little city car is very Peugeot and perhaps more adult than the cars it shares its DNA with. Bold colours such as the purple metallic paint work particularly well on it and in 3 or 5 door trim it looks very sophisticated for a city car. It’s certainly easy to see why it has proven popular, especially in France where it’s a common sight in cities.
As with the other 2 cars in the TPCA partnership, the unit powering the little 108 is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine that has an output of around 72bhp. The 108 is very light and small car at just 840kg in weight and so it doesn’t really need much power to get it going places. A 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox gives Synergy customers some choice depending on how they like to drive. As a modern vehicle and with climate change a very hot topic, business lease holders in particular will be pleased to know CO2 emissions are under 100g/km across all 108 models, which helps keep tax costs down. Trips to the pumps shouldn’t be too common either as 60mpg is quite achievable in the 108.
In terms of equipment, the 108 range features a colour reversing camera, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and climate control. Hill start assistance, keyless entry and autonomous emergency braking are also available in the 108.
Affordable, stylish and with superb running costs, the Peugeot 108 is an excellent machine for urban environments and is also a popular choice with first time drivers.
